Native Encounter, Huicholes Expedition.
Come with us to discover the great HUICHOLES who are living Aztecs in the 21 first century.
Travel north of Nayarit state on highway #200 with the beautiful sights of typical little towns and rudimentary production. The thickness and greenness of the tropical jungle will amaze you along the route. The first stop will be made at “Rincon de Guayabitos” for breakfast.
Then we will continue driving towards “Tepic” the capital of the state. Heading a bit north-east, up mountain (3,000 feet above the sea level) we will surprise you with beautiful and colorful nature on our way to the historic & majestic city of “Compostela”. We will visit the church of Misericordia and the regional museum of anthropology.
Having “Puga”(Sugar Factory) as our next destination, we will head our way to the Indian community called “Nueva Valey”, populated by 130 natives who will gladly welcome us with an asylum ritual done by a high ranked “Marakame” (member of the Huichol community). They will let us in their ‘Cali-Huey’ (Huichol Temple) while they present their splendid music and dance. (Photography allowed).
Last we will head for our three-course meal before going back to Puerto Vallarta doing the last candy shopping.
